A few friends kind enough to read our posts on Facebook have expressed confusion about why we keep using that little pig (it's a bacon press -- meaning a kind of iron that keeps bacon flat while it's cooking) and why we keep posting about books. Which just goes to show how much we need to learn about branding, marketing and plain old explaining.
Bacon Press Books is an indie publishing company. Most of our titles will be ebooks but some will also be available in print on demand. We started this company because we were drawn to the whole new world of digital publishing. We like that it gives authors more control over their work, even if they can't get the same exposure they can get with a traditional publisher. We've still got a strong adolescent rebellious streak, with maybe a touch of old hippie counter-culture sensibility. So we figured if we were drawn to indie publishing, others might be too. And if we learned how to do it, we could help them publish their work. We were lucky enough to have two good friends who are also good writers -- Judith Podell and Ellis Chase. Even better, they were willing to take a chance on publishing with us while we're still learning the ropes. So we published Blues for Beginners: Stories and Obsessions as an ebook and we're about to publish In Search of the Fun-Forever Job: Career Strategies that Work as both paperback and ebook. Even better luck, we met Lorraine Fico-White of Magnifico Manuscripts, who has got to be the best editor anywhere, indie or traditional. And two terrific designers, Stephanie Smith and Allie Tucker of 143 Creative. Along with John Low of ebooklaunch for formatting. So we're confident now we can offer very polished work. But back to Facebook. There is a fanpage for Bacon Press Books, but we made two mistakes. One was connecting our Twitter account, which, we'll admit got pretty annoying with all those posts. And the other is that we kept forgetting to switch between the personal and business Facebook pages, so sometimes it gets all confused. Now we're on much more solid ground. So like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, buy our author's books and consider working with us.
